Yup. I did it. I threw out over 100 bottles of my nail polish collection that I have been gathering since before I started this blog back in 2011.
Why?
I wish I had one simple reason to give you, but I don’t. It breaks down into a three parts that all make up this one giant decision, so I’ll explain as briefly but as thoroughly as I can:
- This article. This is not the first, nor the last, article that I’ve read that covers the seemingly increasing negative health effects of regular nail polish use.
- My physical health. NOT actually because of the article above, but actually for other reasons. My overextended time at the computer writing posts, chatting with everyone on social media channels, and pinning like there is no tomorrow have cause me to develop a growing amount of pain in my arms from repetitive strain injuries with just a touch of carpel tunnel.
- My mental health. As much as I love sharing my creations and latest work with everyone, I’ve been doing it for a while. Actually, I’ve been doing it pretty much non-stop since 2011. I think I’m a little over due on a bit of a break. Burn out is too strong – I love sharing and don’t want to stop. I just need to tone it down just a notch. Not only do I post to this blog, but I do regular updates to Random Nail Art and post weekly over on Unique Pastiche Events. Oh, and you know, that full time job of mine.
So, what does all this have to do with why I’m throwing out a few hundred bottles of nail polish?
Because I think it’s going to help with the new changes I’m making to the site.
I’m changing up what gets posted on the blog these days. I’m discontinuing the weekly nail art link parties……but I’m keeping the monthly submission link party to Random Nail Art going. Ultimately, I love sharing everyone’s nail art creations, and I think this is the best way to do it for me, and to help get the most eyes on everyone’s amazing creations they love to share.
Additionally, I’m hoping to catch up on my “from the vault” looks to share, which includes everything from nail art to some DIYs I know you’re going to love. I’ll be posting what I can, when I can. No schedule, no minimum posts per week.
I don’t know if this makes me semi-retired from blogging? Or just a more relaxed creator. But whatever the case may be, I hope you still stop by from time to time and say hi and check out what’s new. Oh, and don’t worry, I’m still pinning away my favorite looks and projects that everyone is so awesome to share with me on Facebook and Twitter, so don’t stop sharing!
Be sure to add your latest nail art to the Random Nail Art December submission link party, I’ve extended this so everyone can participate! Visit RNA or just add ALL of your nail art links (no swatches please!) here:

I totally understand the reason and I think it’s great your cutting back on blogging to a pace where your comfortable and more relaxed with it. I can’t wait to see the other nail art and DIY’s your going to be sharing with us.
Thank you Lisa! You are wonderful, and I really appreciate your support. I’m excited to see what I come up with. I kept my Zoya polishes (they are pretty safe) so I still have a little room to play, it will just be a little less often. Hope 2016 is off to a great start for you!
Alessandra
Congrats Alessandra! I think this is a great thing…you don’t want to get to the point where you burn out and completely leave the love of the hobby on the wayside! And, I feel like getting rid of a ton of nail polish is just a good cleansing start! Hopefully you will feel refreshed and rejuvenated for this new start!
Can’t wait to see what you post!
So sorry to hear about your health issue 🙁
I just threw out tons of polishes as well, mainly because some were dried out already or I didn’t like them anymore and since I was moving out I’ve decided to only take what I really need with me >///<
Anyways, hope you're feeling better now and I'm still looking forward to see the monthy nail links 😉
Thanks Anhy! I’m doing ok, just trying to keep up with all the exciting things 2016 is bringing me! Good for you for clearing out, I know it’s tough. Hope you are having a great 2016 so far!
