**UPDATE** I’ve been sharing weekly holiday, party, and themed idea boards, just like this inspiration board, on my new site Unique Pastiche Events. CLICK HERE to see more holiday idea and inspiration boards!
Happy 2013!
I hope you had an amazing holiday season, and your year is off to a great start! This week’s event design board is inspired by, well, the New Year! I look at New Year’s as a “starting over” point, and look at the new calendar year as a fresh start. So why not celebrate starting fresh?

Start Fresh {Swap Party} by The Sparkle Queen |
The concept behind this event is based on this: in the new
year, you want to eat healthy, do good, and make room for more positive things in
your life. (Or at least I do!) Oh, and figure out what to do with that random
thing from weird Uncle George that you feel like you should keep, but don’t
actually know what to do with. Your cat doesn’t even want it…..

your life. (Or at least I do!) Oh, and figure out what to do with that random
thing from weird Uncle George that you feel like you should keep, but don’t
actually know what to do with. Your cat doesn’t even want it…..
You know you have a few of those gifts around. Don’t lie.
So the REAL base of this party is….. Gather a group of your friends (or send a memo
out to your co-workers). Have everyone bring stuff they are willing to donate. Think
old clothes, that shirt you bought on sale but never wore. Old pots or mugs,
anything will do! Encourage them to get a head start on spring cleaning, and if
they haven’t worn it in the last year, bring it! And since there is always that person that can’t
part with anyone, offer the option to bring a grocery bag of fresh (not
expired) canned or dried food to be donated at the local soup kitchen. Have
them bring any gifts they may have gotten during the holiday season and are
less than thrilled about. Anything helps!

So how is this a swap you may ask? Well…..
People come, they bring things they don’t want anymore, but
maybe they see something someone else is getting rid of they like…. Make a big
pile of the stuff, and let people go through it! Everything is up for grabs, but you can’t take more than you brought!
I see it as a variation of being green. It’s not going to a landfill, it’s
going to a good new home one way or the other, because with whatever is left,
is going to a local charity! I suggest having big, wrapped boxes on hand so as
the get together winds down, you can toss the stuff going to charity right in
the boxes, and move them to your car easily.

Host with yummy, healthy foods and some positive music, and
you are good to go!
you are good to go!

As with all Sparkle Queen Events, I want to inspire you to make
your event extra special. While many of the items I include in my event designs
are tutorials, recipes, or handmade… use your imagination! Sometimes you can’t
make everything yourself, or you can make things that you could buy, but the
key is to find the right balance for you and your event, and strive to make it
exceptional!

I do like the manner in which you have presented this issue plus it does provide us some fodder for thought. Nonetheless, from everything that I have witnessed, I just wish good luck to you!
