Do you remember summer as a kid? Summer was always a fun season. Lots of pool parties, summer camp, and a bunch of hanging out with friends, enjoying a lazy day or two. As an adult, we mark our calendar for a few days on vacations in a warm, sunny spot. Maybe it’s poolside this year, and next year it’s on a tropical getaway beach.
As a born and raised Floridian: that is not as appealing as it should be. Or could be. For us, it’s been hot as heck since May. The humidity levels are rising, and there is simply not enough of the afternoon thunderstorms we used to get a decade or two ago. Summer is borderline miserable here.
When I thought about what I want on my table this summer, my brainstorming session went all over the place. Sure, there was the easy tropical vibe. But it wears thin after years of being exposed to it. And I half considered a Christmas in July theme. But the thought of going up in a Florida attic (which spoilers, is easily 130 degrees sometimes, if not more!) was just absurd. Plus, I didn’t want to potentially ruin my love of Christmas decorations due to having them out TOO long. If that’s possible.
And then I saw it.
This SUPER fun tapestry:

Maybe it’s because “Astronaut in the Ocean” has been playing on the radio a lot, but more then anything I think the trippy, psychedelic nature of this tapestry is what really drew me in. First off, galaxy. Always, ALWAYS love a galaxy print anything. But an astronaut reaching out for a trippy, glittery jellyfish in space? Oh yeah. And then marbled looking planets, bubbles, moons? Oh yeah, I’m in!

How could I say no?! The bright colors lend themselves to the summer season, but the styling and almost abstract nature of the tapestry elevate this to a look perfect for an adult summer soiree. With all the depth and dimension in the tapestry, the last thing I wanted was a flat tablescape. Which leads us to….

I have a whole tutorial video below on how I put this look together, but I can’t stress how absolutely EASY it was to make this centerpiece! I love how the colors are constantly shifting and morphing like a galaxy swirling in space, and when you are sitting at this table, eating a delicious meal, the clouds are so close it is almost like you are eating in the clouds themselves.

This fluffy centerpiece looks nothing short of incredible at night. I leave the LEDs on as often as I can just because it lights up our space and looks so dang cool. Make sure to watch the video to see it morphing colors, it is so relaxing.

And speaking of the video tutorial, check it out to see just how easy it is to make this fun astronaut in the galaxy meets trippy space ocean tablescape.

If you aren’t up for a full tablscape, you can also just make the glowing galaxy portion with the lights as a home décor piece. It is so easy to do, you won’t regret making it! A full shopping list with everything I used is in the description of the tutorial video for easy reference.
