The Hufflepuff Common Room Essence:

Our journey commences with a grounding in the official inspiration notes from the Wizarding World, describing the Hufflepuff common room as a haven of coziness and camaraderie. Picture a space adorned in the bee-like colors of black and yellow, radiating warmth and friendliness. The high-polished, honey-colored wood enhances the inviting atmosphere, creating a cozy retreat for Hufflepuff students. Curved shelves, hosting copper-bottomed pots with dancing cacti, add a whimsical touch, connecting the common room to the beauty of nature.

The AI Transformation Begins:

Now, armed with the essence of Hufflepuff, we introduced these enchanting details to the Midjourney AI. Through several iterations, the AI skillfully translated the warmth, vibrancy, and natural elements into a visual masterpiece, capturing the true spirit of Hufflepuff House. We started with prompting just “Hufflepuff common room”, and slowly layered on defining elements. These are a few of my favorite looks that came out of this preliminary concept round:

Dining in Hufflepuff Style:

Eager to expand our magical design repertoire, we pivoted to crafting a dining room inspired by our Hufflepuff dining room mood board. The first set of images captured the essence of our original mood board, as we conveyed elements from our original mood board vision to the AI. The results were nothing short of enchanting, as the AI wove together elements of warmth, friendship, and dedication – all hallmarks of Hufflepuff House. This set of images is some of my absolute favorites.

Some of these last few images absolutely blow me away with the details, especially with the yellow and white floral bench I had listed in the prompt. Sure, not every detail is perfect but it’s pretty crazy to think that the AI knows what a yellow and white floral bench could look like and include it in a table set up. I’m sure it’s seen those types of images before, as benches at tables aren’t unheard of but it’s not exactly the norm, either.

Reference Image Magic:

As our journey progressed, we introduced a twist – using our original mood board as a reference image for the AI. With Midjourney it’s easy to upload you own image to use as a refence when prompting, so I was able to upload my original mood board from 2022.

Witness the magic unfold as artificial intelligence leverages the intricacies of our initial creation, blending them seamlessly into a new, AI-infused masterpiece. It’s interesting to see how the AI dealt with the combination of a greenery wall and tile. I don’t think the perspective worked out as well as it did when Midjourney didn’t have a specific prompt to reference because the mood board was obviously not to scale and had some weird perspective, as mood boards do. But the results were still interesting to see:

The Grand Experiment:

Because who can resist a bit of fun and flair in the magical world of design? We decided to play around with a “grand” version, letting the AI’s creativity run wild when adding the word “grand” to our prompt. The results? Nothing short of amazing. These are absolutely dining room goals for me someday:

As we conclude this magical design odyssey, it’s clear that the marriage of Hufflepuff aesthetics and artificial intelligence is a match made in wizarding heaven. As the world of AI continues to evolve, I look forward to trying this exercise again and seeing how it handles things like “swirling copper chandeliers” and the combination of the greenery wall and honeycomb tile combo. Those elements needed the most love in the prompt. No doubt they could be prompted in or in-painted, but for today’s exercise I think this will do.
