1/18/2012 – Protest Internet Censorship!

January 18, 2012

Hello Darlings!

Today is not a normal post for me here, but I felt that this information is important to get out there, since I can’t participate and physically take down my humble site, but more importantly as someone who LOVES being able to search for something on the internet, and find it. I don’t ever want to live in country that calls itself the “land of the free” and boasts its free speech, but allows the GOVERNMENT to censor something as resourceful and amazing as the INTERNET!

Many of you may run into black screens on your favorite website with simple text such as this today :

“Today we are joining dozens of other sites across the Web and going dark to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA).
These two bills could undermine the open Internet and open the door to widespread censorship online. They must be stopped.
The Senate is set to vote on PIPA next week. Take action to learn more about this destructive bill, and urge your senators to vote against it.”

It it because our country is in the process of trying to vote in a online censorship. We cannot let this happen.

Watch this video for a short recap on what is in store for us IF this passes. You really should watch it, or have it play in the background while cooking dinner, it is something you need to hear. Share it with your friends and family. Anyone you know who uses the internet really.

Fight for the Future has an excellent letter drafted and made available for anyone to freely send to their congressmen which is something we all should be doing today.

“I am writing to you as a voter in your district. I urge you to vote “no” on cloture for S. 968, the PROTECT IP Act, on Jan. 24th. The PROTECT IP Act is dangerous, ineffective, and short-sighted. It does not deserve floor consideration.  I urge my representative to vote “no” on SOPA, the corresponding House bill.
Over coming days you’ll be hearing from the many businesses, advocacy organizations, and ordinary Americans who oppose this legislation because of the myriad ways in which it will stifle free speech and innovation.  We hope you’ll take our concerns to heart and oppose this legislation by voting “no” on cloture.”

Americancensorship.org has put together more of a visual impact for your viewing pleasure. PLEASE look at it. Do we really want to have the same censorship methods used in CHINA, IRAN and SYRIA? I sure don’t.
Stop Government Censorship

I urge you to visit sopastrike.com to look at the insanely long list of growing websites participating in this protest. While you are there, it is SO SIMPLE to fill out one of the digital protest forms and send it instantly. http://sopastrike.com/strike/ is the best way to link it to your friends and family.

Please help in this important protest!

Love,
The Sparkle Queen

The internet should be left alone by the government. The government should attack corrupt officials, not internet freedom.
