What do you think of when you hear the terms “modern peacock” or “watercolor peacock”? To me, I initially think of THIS wedding ideas board I did back in 2013 which was a themed peacock wedding concept board, with a modern and bright color palette. I do have admit, it’s still one of my favorite concept design boards I’ve ever put together. There’s something about those colors that I just love, and think that they work wonders for creating a lighter atmosphere yet still incorporate peacock elements into the decor.

You can only imagine my genuine delight when I found a set of modern peacock place mats at my local thrift store, with some of the same colorful hues as my peacock wedding concept board! What I was really excited about was that in a set of four place mats, there were two different designs. Both so lovely!

To keep this tablescape simple, so the focus would still be on the pretty hues and great place mats, I put together a simple flower centerpiece with giant mums. I had attempted to get some of the giant mums to change colors slightly (the same shades of blues and greens) with food coloring, but it barely did anything. Oh well, another time!

When I was debating which napkins to use, I opted to use these vibrant green napkins, another great thrift store find, that have lovely scalloped edges. I worked out a fold that creates a feathery leaf effect, and doesn’t require any fancy advanced origami folding skills. Here’s a quick tutorial I put together to show you how easy it is create this napkin fold in your own home:
We are nearly approaching the halfway marker for my 2017 tablescape challenge, and I couldn’t be more excited! As in each post I do, I think it’s important to share with you exactly where I found all the elements for this tablescape, so that you can see how easy it is for you to recreate this look in your own home. So with that being said, here’s where each element of this simple table decor was found:
- Blue tablecloth – $3 from my local Goodwill
- Peacock place mats – set of 4 were purchased at my local Salvation Army for $2
- Green glass napkin rings – a set of 12 glass napkin rings were only $3 from my local Goodwill
- Small clear vase – was $1 at my local Goodwill (it was 50% off being the color of the week!)
- Flowers – 3 bunches of large mums from my local grocery store for $12
- White tablecloth (layered under the blue tablecloth to make it floor length) – had on hand from my modern tablescape from January
- Scalloped green napkins – had on hand from my April fuzzy bunnies table decor
That brings our total to just $21! How awesome is that?

As I always say, think about what you have already, and for what you don’t have: take periodic trips through local thrift shops. You’d be amazed at what you can find. It’s all about being there at the right time to find the perfect score.

Really pretty this s.
Thank you! I think simplicity sings more than layers sometimes!
I especially love the napkins but I got a good chuckle from “clear” being the color of the week! Hehehe
Well thank you! You know its’ funny, another thrift store a few blocks away does it by item themes. One week it’s “all platters and ovenware are 50%” off, but the next week it could literally be something like “30% off cups”. All over the place! But it’s trips like that where you go in and are just like, “ok, let’s see what kind of bargains we can get today” that make the outing so fun.
