Hello darlings!
I’m hoping some of you will help sway my mind. I am still trying to figure out what the logic is behind black and nude wedding gowns. I’m seeing all of these articles popping up, here and there, and flooding my wedding inbox about the new Vera Wang Bridal Collection for 2012.
If you are unfamiliar with the specifics, here are some of the pictures:
And a quick video summary of all the looks:
You may be asking why I even care. I do try to stay on top of these things, but mostly I got engaged earlier this year, and while I know it’s going to be a while before we can set a date, I still enjoy looking at trends, and besides, who doesn’t love looking at pretty dresses anyways?!
Additionally: my life is events. I’ve worked hundreds of events. I’m in school, studying event management. I LOVE social events. Working weddings are some of my fondest event memories. Having said that, I’ve seen my fair share of crazy shit. I’ve seen brides rocking out in a total camouflage look from head to toe. I’ve seen people have obnoxious twenty foot long trains that are covered in feathers. I’ve watched so many poor bridesmaids look like a hot mess than I care to even acknowledge. Heck I even saw people get married at conventions in front of thousands of costume wearing strangers!
I appreciate that when it is your day, you can do whatever the hell you want. You know I will be. It’s supposed to be all about you. I’m all for black. Black makes up easily 50% or more of my wardrobe. I rock a fierce artsy-moody-sexy look quite well. Nudes, don’t seem to look as good on my less that surfer tan, but I know people love them.
I get WHY brides traditionally wear white, and I know that we aren’t all exactly as “pure” as our crisp white gowns.
Here is what I don’t get:
If you are trying to go against the grain, fight the resistance, and say you know what, I’m not pure and completely innocent; I’ve done some things, whatever. It’s cool. WHAT could possibly run through your mind to go, you know what, screw the white dress, I’m wearing a stunning NUDE dress?!!!
If that’s the logic you are going with as to not wearing the white dress, than wouldn’t you want to wear either black, to make a super dramatic statement, or your favorite color to embrace yourself and the things that make you, you? Maybe I’m just crazy and over thinking this. But it just boggles my mind to be like, “you know, we aren’t wearing white anymore! Buuuuuuutt we don’t want to make any sudden movements, slowww down there buddy, we are just going to shift the gradation marker over a few notches at a time. Baby steps now, baby steps.”
If someone can help bounce some logical reasoning around, I’d love to hear it. Maybe I’ll start taking a poll on my Facebook. I’d love to hear what you think about the topic!
Love,
The Sparkle Queen
