It’s crazy to think how close we are to summer, but here in the south those warmer weather temperatures are already creeping up. When it’s hot out, it’s easy to default to vibrant, saturated hues and bold summer prints. If you are anything like me, you get bored quickly with looks and are always ready to move on to the next design. Since it’s been ages since I got to make one of my own tablescapes, I thought the least I could do was dream up my own look for welcoming summer.
At first, I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go in, other then I’d want to curate a look I would have on my table, especially if money was no option. I also wanted something that looked better than just a stylized shoot with rental-only pieces and hard to find accents. No, I needed this to at least be somewhat accessible, if not now then someday.
On a good day, I’d tell you I rely heavily on my Amazon Prime account for pure convenience, on other days, I’ll tell you how many “OMG LIFESAVER” moments I’ve had that Amazon came to the rescue. In reality, I work a lot, commute, and try and make healthy meals, and take care of my adorable doodle. I can do anything, just not everything. Amazon helps me get things done quick. If you haven’t experienced the wonder of a Prime membership, you are missing out! It’s worth checking out since the list of benefits grows all the time. HELL-O Whole Foods savings! Here’s a great place to start. And if you are a student, you get a heck of a good deal – enjoy the perks while they last!
It was during a late night shopping moment on Amazon, looking for random storage shelves and bins to better sort my piles, that one click led to another, and I was looking up glassware. In my defense, I really do need new water glasses, but probably not at 1 in the morning. Nevertheless, I’m scrolling through the options, and find this beautiful set of tortoise water glasses, hand crafted AND made of recycled glass. I mean come on, perfect gift or what?
From there it took off! You’ll see in my curated pieces of tortoise table decor below, I included a wide range of options and price points. I could see these all working together in a classic look with a crisp white table cloth and bright white napkins and some jumbo tropical leaves in a centerpiece, creating a modern tablescape with the ageless tortoise shell look.
Do you see what I see? If you are making a tropical look, perhaps for a special occasion or just because, I’d pair these exquisite tortoise shell pieces with the following:
Use these for the place mats, with a white dinner plate, and the above accent salad plates:
Then get some of these jumbo leaves and a white vase for the centerpiece. Remember, the tortoise shell is the highlight here, we don’t want any competing textures or prints. A simple centerpiece will balance it out perfectly.
Don’t forget some crisp linens. I love a good floor length polyester linen. They are easy to maintain and cheap. I’m thinking something as simple as this.
A bright white napkin will also highlight the exotic tortoise shell print.
I love how the white will brighten up the whole look, which can easily get too dark and dated, while the rich green leaves offer a sense of nature and organic softness, all while leaving the highlight of the tablescape on the tortoise shell.
Of course, this would all be great and I would order every item pronto and put together a sample set for you if money were no worry, but such is life. In the meantime, I’ll keep pining my faves and saving it for my “someday decor”.
